Kim Kardashian's Wedding Flowers
75
When Kim Kardashian wed Kris Humphries on August 20, 2011, it seems that no expense was spared at this over-the-top, extravagant affair. Being a former floral designer, as usual, my main concern was which flowers she carried down the aisle.
Kim Kardashian's wedding bouquet was shockingly simple. It was a hand-tied bouquet of common Ecuadorian white “polo” roses. The flowers at her wedding were all done by well-known LA florist, Mark’s Garden, but could easily be a do-it-yourself bouquet. The bouquet was placed in what is described as a white silk ginkgo leaf cuff, and tied in a wide white satin bow.
Polo roses are a great choice for bridal bouquets because they come in a lovely and pure shade of white. They have strong, firm petals that do not bruise easily, and their buds stay tight but bulbous as opposed to pointy and conical. They may open, depending on how mature they are, or with some florist coaxing, but beware, some blooms will err on the yellow or green side.
Usually, if one is going to make a large, hand-tied bouquet out of roses, many of the stems are removed and a wire inserted under the head of the rose and wrapped in floral tape. This method is used to cut down on the bulkiness of the stems once they are tied together. Kim’s bouquet probably contained up to 18 roses and the designer probably wired half of the stems.
Although I have searched far and wide, I was unable to find anything like the gingko leaf sleeve that holds the bouquet. I’m thinking this may be a handmade or locally made specialty item consisting of a fabric “sack” that is covered in white silk fabric gingko leaves.

Kim’s wedding bouquet, believe it or not, is an excellent choice for the budget savvy bride. Bring a picture to your local florist and provide a bouquet sleeve, yourself, and this bouquet should not cost much more than the going rate of the roses themselves.
